Tea Factory - A tea factory is a multi – storied building almost always sited on the tea – estates .The final value of the manufactured tea mostly depends on the tea factories found on the estates. If the processes at the factory are not carried out properly, then the end output will be of a lame quality regardless of how carefully the leaves have been nurtured and plucked.

The Tea Factory ensures that the time between plucking and processing of tea is kept to the minimum. Once the tea leaves arrive at the factory, they are spread in troughs for the process of withering. Withering removes excessive moisture available in the leaf to make it flexible for blend.

After the completion of withering, the tea leaves are rolled, twisted and broken up. This acts as the catalyst for the enzymes in the leaves to react as they come in contact with air, which is a necessary for the production of black tea. The leaves are then rolled in a circular tables, which are fitted with brass or wooden battens the leaf is penetrated in from above, through an open cylinder which applies pressure of the leaves while rolling.

After rolling, the leaves are collected and are spread out on a table where they start to ferment when exposed to warm air. The time for fermentation depends on the weather pattern prevailing then this brings about the changes necessary to make the tea liquor palatable. After this chemical process of fermentation, the colour of the leaf changes from green to dark brownish yellow

The oxidized leaf is then put into a chamber of fire where the hot air prevents any further presence of chemical reaction. The temperature at which will force the Tea. Once firing process is completed, the tea leaves emerge hard and black and is ready for grading.

The value of final product is characterized but the procedure of grading. The tea particles are separated into different shapes and sizes by sitting them through progressively finer sizes of meshes. The various grades of tea denote only the size and appearance of the leaf but bear no relation of quality. The teas examined under grades are finally weighed and packed into tea chests paper sacks and released to the companies for distribution.
